Honey and Wild Blueberry Smoothie

I am drinking blueberries and honey like it's my job.

Breakfast on the go is not really my thing, you guys. I've always been the kind of person who would forgo blow drying their hair before work in exchange for a full, warm, sit-down breakfast. At the very least, toast with peanut butter and banana and some jam, with a side of coffee. And yogurt, and a few bites of last night's noodles. Eew, I'm gross. You can judge me; I deserve it.

But lately, I'm onto this new thing. It's called Breakfast on the Go. Have you heard of it? Bjork's been trying to teach me about it for the last 75 years and I'm just now sort of getting it. I mean, my complete, warm, sit-down breakfasts are still a thing. It's just time to mix it up, you know?

We have this little cheap plastic cup with a screw on lid and a plastic straw, you know the kind that makes you feel like you're drinking a fountain pop but actually you're drinking something from your house? Yeah, one of those. And it's perfect for this wild blueberry smoothie.

We've got a nize little recipe card visual today because, duh, FRIDAY. Mixin' it up and getting a little crazy. Owwwyah.

Pst. I'll let you in on a little secret if you promise not to let me know -> I put kale in this smoothie. Kale, like the sturdy, leafy greens that are sometimes hard to eat because they're so... sturdy. And leafy. This is a cornucopia of fruits and veggies that I am now enjoying every morning ON. THE. GO. This is weird.

Also, I added some milk and I added some more honey. Because I ♥ honey.

Also, ice cubes. Because I'm so warm here in Minneessoota.

Honey and Wild Blueberry Smoothie


This Honey and Wild Blueberry Smoothie is so simple and delicious. Creamy, refreshing, and healthy - a great, easy breakfast or snack!


  • 1 banana, fresh or frozen
  • 1 cup mango chunks, fresh or frozen
  • 1/2 cup wild blueberries, fresh or frozen
  • 1/2 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup milk (or just enough to help things blend smoothly)
  • 1 heaping tablespoon raw honey (more to taste)
  • 1/2 cup kale or any other add ins that you want


  1. Place bananas, mangoes, blueberries, yogurt, and milk in a blender. Blend until smooth. Add the kale and honey; blend again until smooth.
  2. If desired (and especially if all your ingredients were fresh instead of frozen), add a few ice cubes to increase the volume of the smoothie and help it stay chilled. Crush until smooth.
  3. Top with additional blueberries and serve immediately.


Sometimes I add a spoonful of strawberry or raspberry jam as well to keep it sweet and berry-tasting.

    Not as much as I love this smoothie too. My hubby has been trying to get me into that breakfast on the go thang too, but I am with you on the sit down breakfast. How-ev-er blueberries and honey? I may just need to venture over to the quick breakfast dark side for that! Pinned!

    Mmm I’m so loving the sounds of this! In fact, I usually never pin smoothies because I didn’t have a drinks or smoothies pin board (??? not like it’s hard to make one, I’m weird), but I really needed to pin this, so I made a board. There’s nothing I love more than honey and blueberries and smoothies…yum!!

    I love smoothies and this is an interesting, new combination. I just bought some raw honey from a local farm for the first time and would like to try it out. Hearing that raw honey helps with seasonal allergies, I am giving it a go!

    I’m a big fan of sit down bk’s too but lately I’ve been running out the door with a banana in hand. This bk on the go is perfecto for me! Love the blueberry/honey combo!

    I practically live on smoothies but breakfast on-the-go? Not for me.
    I like to have my green tea and my yogurt with blueberries at the table, and it’s not negotiable.
    My (non-requested) advice is: Stick to your old habits Lindsay, and don’t let anyone talk you into something that is so unnatural such as breakfast on-the-go! 😉

    YUM! That look scrumptious! And all the vitamins and minerals in there! You are getting your morning off right! That would be a totally amazing post-workout smoothie! I can’t eat toooo much before I run (yuck tummy) but I am usually STARVING when I get home! Mmmm … this is perfect!
    And those plastic cups with the straws – my kiddos already have a couple … so I’m good to go! 🙂

    I’ve been enjoying smoothies forever but it’s so hard to stick with because I honestly enjoy chewing my food. Maybe way too much. And, I love breakfast. I could eat breakfast for every meal. I recently started a 30-Day Green Smoothie challenge. So far, so good. I did miss one day because I wasn’t feeling so well so I’ll tack an extra day on to the end of the month. They certainly have their health benefits and are much better than heading to the drive-thru. I just want to chew though!

    This looks delicious but I love your photo even more! I have tried having smoothies for breakfast but no matter how big they are or what I put in them, I don’t feel satisfied and am hungry a few hours later. But three slices of bacon will keep me satisfied for easily over 6 hours.

    Breakfast on the go is SO not my thing either. It was forced to be for a while because of insane 8 am classes 4 days a week in grad school, which resulted in me grabbing a banana and tupperware of dry cereal while running out the door. Now that those days are over, I savor every single breakfast that I can. But I can still get behind the idea of sipping on a smoothie, if I can do it at my leisure sitting at the dining table! 😉

    Wow, so yummy and healthy! Breakfast smoothies are awesome for me because I go to work at 6 in the morning. I have a freezer cup for my smoothies, similar to yours. 🙂 I wonder if I could toss a little fresh spinach in a smoothie istead of the kale. I don’t personally like the bitterness of kale, and I always keep baby spinach around for salads. I’ll have to give it a try! 🙂

    We make one with coconut milk, peanut butter, cacao nibs, shredded coconut, maple syrup, hemp seeds and chia seeds. Delicious and energizing!

    I love it Lindsay! I have also just recently been trying out some kale smoothies, hmmm doesn’t that sound deeelish; it can be when you add enough cacao to mask the taste. I also just posted a smoothie recipe along with a pic of what happened when I didn’t put the lid on my blender properly woaaaaah I am still finding spats of it in my kitchen days later hehe.
